A bed bug infestation can be a nightmare for homeowners. In fact, the only difference between bed bugs and a terrifying dream is that bed bugs don’t go away when you wake up. The insect resides in and around beds and furniture and only chomps down on you and yours to sate its appetite. Some tell-tale signs of a bed bug infestation are blood spots on sheets, a musty odor coming from problem area, and egg shells or molten skin in or around bed or furniture. If any of these become apparent within your home, it is time to call our Clegg’s team at (888) MRCLEGG for a FREE inspection. Call us today and let us leap into action defending your home!
Do bed bugs bite pets?
While bed bugs prefer to bite humans, it is not uncommon for them to bite pets as well. This includes dogs, cats, birds, etc. If your pet seems to be itching certain areas, and you know for sure it is not fleas, it’s possible that bed bugs could be the culprit. Bed bugs like to take shelter in dog beds or crates, since these areas are typically not kept as clean. If your pet has bed bug bites, or their bedding is infested, it is a good indication that the rest of the house is infested as well and you should call us right away.
How can I check for bed bugs?
Anyone can give their home or temporary sleeping arrangement a thorough check for bed bugs. Using a flashlight, preferably LED, inspect all areas around your bed and furniture including the mattress, sheets, headboard, boxspring, bedside tables, and adjacent walls. Adult bed bugs are typically ¼ inch and appear a reddish-brown color. They leave behind traces such as droppings, egg shells, shed skin, and blood stains. If you see any of these, contact us at (888) MRCLEGG for a free inspection asap.
How do you treat bed bug bites?
When bed bugs bite, it quickly becomes apparent on the skin. Red marks or blisters will appear in the areas that the bugs chewed on. While these marks typically heal up in about a week with little irritation, people with sensitive skin can experience more severe symptoms like rash and hives. To treat bitten areas, wash with soap and warm water. Use over the counter anti-itch cream and antihistamines as you see fit.
