The firebrat variation of a silverfish can range in color from moderate to dark gray.
They are unique identified from common silverfish in a few ways, one being the prevalence of dark patches on their back.
Unlike common silverfish, the firebrat enjoys dark, warm places such as areas near furnaces and boilers.
