Clegg’s Provides Pro-Bono Bed Bug Treatment for Ayden Family

Medical issues and lack of community resources leave local man unable to afford bed bug treatment without help

Durham, NC – Clegg’s Termite & Pest Control, LLC announced that on Monday, June 17, it will be treating a severe bed bug infestation at the home of an Ayden family at no charge. The thermal heat treatment will eliminate the bed bugs. Once they have been removed, Clegg’s will deliver furniture donated by friends of Clegg’s to replace items that could not be salvaged.

“When I originally inspected Mr. Ormond’s home, the infestation and resulting damage was some of the worst I have ever seen,” says Tony Dobbs, Rambo’s handler and pest control/bed bug detection specialist. “I could smell the bugs when I walked in the door. Ormond’s son lives with him and has several medical issues. Because of the medical issues and financial situation, Mr. Ormond was unable to pay for treatment. I did some legwork and went through the standard channels to help him find resources that would help cover the cost of treatment. Unfortunately, I ran into brick walls at every turn. I finally went back to Clegg’s corporate team and asked what we could do to help. We all agreed given the severity of the situation, we could not just let it go. I got the go-ahead to schedule the heat treatment for next Monday.”

The bed bug infestation has further aggravated the son’s health issues. He had been receiving home health care, but when bed bugs were inadvertently carried back to the nursing facility, and his home was identified as the source, the provider discontinued home visits pending removal of the bed bugs. “This has been a real ordeal for Mr. Ormond and his son,” adds Dobbs. “After seeing everything he has gone through, I also asked the team at our Greenville branch about putting together a furniture drive to help Mr. Ormond and others like him. We have had a great response from the community. Once Mr. Ormond’s house is free of bed bugs, we’ll move some of the donated items in to replace the furnishings lost to the bed bugs.” In severe cases, it is not always possible to completely eliminate bed bugs in torn or damaged mattresses or upholstered items. All donated items are inspected by Clegg’s trained bed bug detection dogs before being provided to recipients.

  2. What You Can Do: All clothing, bed linen, curtains, fabrics, hangings and the like must laundered prior to insecticidal treatment. Wrap mattresses in black plastic bag and place in the sun for several hours. Seal gaps in furniture, floor boards and cracks in wallpaper and other such areas where bed bugs can hide during the day light hours.

  3. This holiday season Bed Bug Central partnered with eight pest management firms from across the United States to donate bed bug treatment services to those in need through, Taking the Bite Out of the Holidays, their annual holiday charity. Taking the Bite out of the Holidays, was created by technical director, Jeff White of Bed Bug Central, a free information resource to the public and pest professional concerning bed bugs and bed bug related issues and treatment methods. White created the holiday charity after seeing first-hand how difficult it can be for non-profits and individuals in need to obtain effective bed bug services.
